A LOOK BACK at the inspiring PEOPLE and some of the TOPICS discussed during 2019 on the VOICE OF CHRISTIAN LIBERTY
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:6 KJV
Shut the door! New Year’s resolutions, how did they begin? In most people there seems to be an inherent desire to improve or to change things. The new year highlights that inclination. It appeals to us, What can we make new or improve? And that beckoning creates the impetus to resolve to do something. We then make a resolution. We will change our choices or our habits. We say we will attempt new things, change our diet, eat less sweets, exercise more, and so on. Maybe as Christians we resolve to read through the whole Bible, have family devotions regularly, or pray more frequently and effectively. That last one, that’s my choice.
Pray more — that’s my 2020 New Year’s resolution. Yet, for me and for many, our resolved declarations stated on day one of the fledgling year often die by day two! And in this case, pray more, that resolution is a conundrum. The question: How does anyone overcome not praying? The answer: By praying.
Here’s a key — it’s a New Year’s resolution life hack. All “how to” questions have the same answer. The question: How does one wisely begin any new endeavor or change anything? The answer — pray, friend. Pray!
So my New Year’s resolution is — shut the door! I will go into my prayer closet — and, no, it doesn’t need to be a closet — but you need to shut out the world and its demands and seek the face of God and pray. And than you will see the resolutions you desire accomplished according to His perfect will, the will of a Heavenly Father who loves you. Pray to thy Father which is in secret; and “thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward you openly.”
So first things first on this 2020 New Year’s day, resolve to shut the door!
Love, In Christ,
Inspiring courage and wisdom to live the life God has called you to live.
